A WALK IN SEPTEMBER

Field Six

This is the edge of the field near Field Five.
This area was cleared in 2001. Already the grasses are thriving and the marsh violets are showing thier leaves.
This area was cleared at the beginning of 2004. There have been many more flowers here as well as lots of Dragon and Damselflies.
The water is beginning to fill this area. Sometimes its up to welly-top height. The branches on the left of the pictures are called "sunshoots". The main branch has fallen down but the fresh growth heads for the sunlight.
We believe this to be Dog Lichen (Peltigera canina). It can be found on the horizontal branch at the back of the previous picture.
The autumn fungi are beginning to appear through the leaves. Roll your mouse over this one to see it at a later stage.

Haven't identified this fungus yet.

The goosegrass is producing fresh growth.
The Yellow Pimpernel (Lysimachia Nemorum) is still in flower. Nearby we also spotted Herb Robert and Red Campion.

Sadly, this was one of several beech trees to be blown down sometime before we owned the land. It's become a good home for many mosses.
These are beech nuts or " masts"
Sometimes the stream is nearly dry at this time of the year
We hope you have enjoyed your visit. You can carry on through into the nearby Forestry land or walk back up our Ride here to get back to the gate.
Here's just a selection of the goodies we've harvested, Acorns, Beech masts, Hazel nuts and some Rowan berries.
