A WALK IN SEPTEMBER Field Three
|
This field is a small unit. It remains well sheltered and keeps its heat. |
Soon it will be brushcut to keep the thistles down. |
Gradually we need to cut the edges back to allow more light in and to stop the scrub taking over the field. |
Yet to be identified. |
The Marsh Woundwort (Stachys palustris - Labiatae) is still in flower, although there are lots of seed heads appearing. (pic to follow - it was too windy!) There's a lot of Corn Mint here as well. Another field with its own olefactory character. |
The autumn harvest of nuts are appearing. The wind has blown down a lot of the acorns already. |
The Brambles are beginning to fruit. These neever come to much as far as lushness is concerned. So far we've not had a decent meal of blackberries from our patch in all the years. Still, better to leave them for the various inhabitants. |
Even now they are producing fresh blossoms. |
The Speckled Woods are still around, trying to catch what's left of the Autumn sunshine.
But many of them are now looking very tatty. |
Not sure what this is. We wonder about Hemlock Water Dropwort.
The Hemp Agrimony(Eupatoria cannabinum) is now in seed. Soon these will float off in the winds.
