This is Star Sedge (Carex echinata) found in the marshier parts of the second field. It is not unusual on culm but is a minor component. It flowers in May and June and produces fruits from June to August.
Here it is later in July | |
Carnation Sedge (Carex Panicea) is so called because its leaves look like those of the carnation. It too, is a characteristic of culm grassland. It flowers from May to June and friuts from June to September.
