A WALK IN APRIL

Field Five

Field Five (4.75 acres, 1.922 hectares) consists of quite dense woodland.

Sometimes it is difficult to find one's way through and you can end up in the same place.

Eventually parts of it will be cleared to avoid swamping the grasses and other plants. The aim will be to coppice some of the trees and make glades in amongst the rest.

The deer have no trouble finding their way through and it is possible to follow their winding paths. This month they have left footprints in abundance. They use our land as a means of travelling from the forestry land to the north of us to the lusher grass fields to the south.

Now it's time to move on to the sixth field. Cut through the trees in the middle of the field or, if you prefer, follow the ride down towards the stream.
